Our first St David's Christmas Praise combined the excitement of Christmas with the usual charged atmosphere of St David's Praise - a mix which was bound to be special! And it was - resulting in a superb evening of music and praise. Kelvin Thomas led proceedings and the audience were involved from the start with some singing lessons from Kelvin to aid "Ding Dong Merrily on High."

Jeffrey Howard conducted some lovely new carols from the USA as well as one by Pete Webb of Rhiwbina Baptist. Jeff's organ solo, "Christmas" by Gaston Dethier, brought the house down.

Soprano Tabitha Watling, who had made a brief appearance in May's St David's Praise, delighted the audience with her solo slots

The Cambrats, with a medley of Christmas songs from round the world, were on top form. The first half ended with Anne Brown inviting the audience to join with some of the choir and play percussion for The Calypso Carol.

Each half began with hand bells

The orchestra led by David Lewis played "Troika," traditional carols were sung and altogether it was a very festive occasion.

The Rev Peter Baker, of Highfields Free Church in Cardiff, gave a short address in each half, bringing some new thoughts on the ancient story.

The packed house was obviously delighted with the evening and many commented that it was a brilliant start to the season.

Join us again at St David's Praise on Saturday May 19th. Special guest will be guitarist John Gerighty of "Simeon and John." And next December we'll be back with more festive fayre!
