Kelvin Thomas

Music Director

Kelvin is the founder director of Cambrensis. He is committed to ministry through music and is excited to return as director alongside associate directors Jonathan Davies and Graeme Hunter.

He has a first class music degree from Cardiff University and is qualified as a singing and piano teacher with LRAM, LTCL, ATCL diplomas. He is a graduate of Cardiff College of Music and Drama (now Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama) and has also attended courses at the Southern Baptist Seminary, Louisville, USA.

Kelvin is a past winner of the Royal National Eisteddfod of Wales as best baritone/bass and won the Blue Riband for best singer under 25. He is also a past finalist in the international Richard Tauber singing competition. For several years he attended the Britten/Pears graduate school working with major teachers and performers.

He has performed internationally as a singer and is particularly recognised for his performances of contemporary music. He has recorded Peter Maxwell Davies’ ‘8 Songs for a Mad King’ several times and sung many times on BBC Radio 3. He has performed in major festivals including Cheltenham, Oxford, London and Orkney, as well as throughout Europe and in Australia and the USA, most recently in Miami but also in Dallas and Vermont with the Yellow Barn Festival. He has worked with well known ensembles including Psappha, Music Theatre Wales, Endymion and the London Sinfonietta. He has also performed with the Welsh National Opera.

Kelvin and his wife, Dorothy, are members at Highfields Church, Cardiff. They have two daughters and two grandchildren.
